Endangered Animal Facts: What You Need To Know

The number of animal species under the animal kingdom all around the world is just too many. In fact some species still remain undiscovered and therefore is not included to the count of identified animal species. There are about 1.5 million species which have already been described and named by scientists.

As a response to reality and the normal processes of nature, each of this animal species under go evolution and eventually extinction. Even before human beings existed, various species have already been extinct. Natural extinction is a process wherein the population of particular species declines.

However at present, extinction has already been affected by other factors besides those natural ones. Rate of extinction had an unnatural increase over the last four hundred years. The rise became consistent since the 1900. This rise in animal as well as plant extinction was said to be a cause of the increasing human population. This is the reason why the term endangered species came into existence. It is perceived as a more appropriate or suited term for such unnatural extinction.

Usually endangered animal species as well as endangered plant species increase in rate due to the immutable human activities. These unwanted human activities may involve destruction of animal habitats and pollution. These are among the major contributing factors which cause endangerment of animal species. These human activities are considered as indirect destructions.

On the other hand animal capturing and hunting activities of humans are considered as direct destruction. Capturing and hunting became rampant since the invention of firearms. It allowed mass destruction of animal species, a major cause of endangering them. Usually capturing and hunting are meant for commercialization purposes wherein animal parts are sold and created into merchandised products. Some animals are even killed for the lame purpose of amusement.

Perhaps the rate of endangered animals will continue to rise for as long as people remain irresponsible with their actions. There is no way to stop animal extinction and endangerment not until everyone realizes that everything has a limitation and an end.
