Endangered Animal Species: It's Effects in Life And Other Processes

Endangered animal species refer to animal species which are dying out or in great danger of extinction. There is an estimated 7,200 animal species all over the world threatened with extinction. Each year, this number increases even before biologists can actually identify them. Primarily, endangered animals are threatened by extinction due to pollution and other commercialized exploitation and activities. However, the greatest cause of extinction in animals is the direct destruction of their habitat.

Although extinction is perceived as a normal part or process in evolution, since the 1600s the rate of extinction had immensely increased. Animal species have evolved and eventually disappeared as a response to various natural processes such as climate change and incompetence in survival. But it is human resource consumption and growth in human population which is seen as a major contributing factor in animal endangerment.

At present, biologists say that the world is experiencing an episode of greatest mass extinction as compared to the disappearance of dinosaurs which occurred 65 million years ago. It is said that the changes occurring to animal habits are faster than their adaptation to such changes. In relation to these rampant changes and disappearances of animal species, biodiversity and ecosystem functions are as well affected causing its decline.

Remaining species including human beings survival are affected by such irrevocable loss or decline of biodiversity. The endangerment of animals and even plant species affect the needs of human being in terms of clean water, air and food. It was said that as much as 40 percent of modern medicine are obtained from animals or plants. Their endangerment or extinction therefore is a major loss in health needs of the human race.

Today, there have been various acts to help prevent the extinction or endangerment of both animals and plants. However, these acts would not be in full effect without the support of each and every individual. For this reason, the call for human being to help in the prevention of extinction is highly sought. Only through efforts in saving endangered animal species can human life as well e preserved.
