Endangered Sea Animals: Losing Sea Wonders

There has been an estimate of 7,200 million animal species considered as endangered. Each year thousands and thousands are expected to be included in this list of extinction. While there have been acts made to help in the prevention of these increased loss, the number of endangerment may just seem to respond negatively. This is caused by the continuous unwanted human activities.

Quite a great number of endangered animals include sea animals. The perceived cause of sea animal endangerment is the destruction of their natural habit usually caused by human activities. Endangered sea animals suffer the consequences brought about by pollution made by human beings. Other sea animals are faced by the threat of extinction due to commercial activities.

A bulk of the endangered sea animals generally are composed of whales, sharks and other sea mammals. Sea turtles and some invertebrate sea animals as well fall under the endangered list. Among the many endangered sea animals include Basking Sharks, Dugong, Blue Wales, Pantropical Spotted Dolphin, Queen Conch or Pink Conch and as mentioned, Sea Turtles.

Basking Sharks or Cetorhinus Maximus are huge sharks which can grow up to about 33 feet long. These breed of sharks are considered as filter feeding sharks and are considered as second largest among all sharks. Basking sharks are harmless to people and are relatively slow swimmers. As compared to other sharks, Basking sharks move their whole body from side to side as they swim.

Dugongs or Dugon dugon on the other hand are huge aquatic animals which are found living in the shallow and warm waters of the Southern Hemisphere of Australia and Africa. Like any typical mammal, they use their lungs and nostrils to breathe. The life span of Dugongs is about 50 years.

Queen Conch or Pink Conch is a gastropod with a very hard shell in order to protect its soft-bodied type of mollusk. This sea animal is an invertebrate which can be found in the shallow and warm grassbed waters of the Caribbean Sea. This type of sea animal is endangered considering that their shells are normally collected by people to be made as a conch trumpet or jewelry.

Coming from the name itself, Sea Turtles spend almost their whole lives in the seas. They are a huge breed of turtles that live in shallow coastal waters of temperate seas. Sea Turtles have various types such as Green Turtles, Flatback, Loggerhead and so on. Unfortunately all these types of Sea Turtles are considered threatened or endangered sea animals.
