Endangered Species List: Legal Means of Endangered Animal Preservation

Endangered species particularly animals, are those which are threatened with extinction. This goes to show that their specie number is declining throughout the years. Their endangerment may either be caused by several factors such as climate change, pressure from other invasive species and habitat destruction usually caused by unwanted human activities.

There are two ways of perceiving the term endangered species. First is through a general context. Endangered species defined in a general context simply refers to the risks or threats of extinction but such species are not under the protection of the law. On the other hand, endangered species in the legal sense means that such endangered species are determined and included in the Endangered Species List. Those under the list are hence protected by law.

In order to determine what species may fall under the Endangered Species List, a process known as Endangered Species Petition Process is followed. This determining process allows particular endangered species or animals threatened by extinction to be under the protection of the law or some endangered species acts. The process consists of series of steps that organizations and other conservationists group working for preservation of endangered species follow. These processes or series of steps serve as means of evaluating whether or not particular animal species may be included or added to the list of endangered or threatened for extinction animal species.

Once the steps or processes are followed accordingly, the animal species shall be added to the Endangered Species List. Being included in such list means that they shall be protected by law and hence any unwanted activities or actions concerning them are punishable by law.

The formulation and enforcement of the Endangered Animal Species List is an ideal move which will aid in the prevention of the animals total extinction. In addition to that, the list is as well a big help in informing people of what animals are endangered and hopefully will push them to work in preserving them.
